Two easy to implement solutions; pump curve digitization and nonlinear equation solution. A simple method of converting a common pump curve to a set of X-Y data points for input into a hydraulic analysis program or other software. Plus a method for solving complex iterative engineering equations will be presented. This method can be used for equations, such as the friction factor, which cannot be simplified. As organizations move away from the use of charts and graphs to digital solutions, engineers must deal with the digitizing of pump curves and tank volume charts for hydraulic analysis software and developing methods to solve iterative equations.
Lyle Mariam is a maintenance engineer with the Las Vegas Valley Water District's Asset Management group.
